After a string of five wins, the Winner Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 51-37 bruising from Mt. Vernon/Plankinton. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Winner has scored all season.
Winner's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keelie Kuil, who scored six points along with four steals. Kuil is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kylie Sachtjen, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Winner's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Mt. Vernon/Plankinton, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2.
Winner on the road again on Saturday and play against Tri-Valley at 11:00 a.m. on January 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Tri-Valley is ranked 46th, while Winner is ranked 25th). As for Mt. Vernon/Plankinton, they will head out on the road to square off against Gregory at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
