The Morgan Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Bayshore Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Morgan's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Monday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Morgan after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hillsborough.
Morgan handed starting duties to Felix Polanco, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Polanco has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Bayshore made sure to put some runs up on the board against Gulf Coast HEAT on Friday. The Bruins came out on top against the Lions by a score of 14-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Bruins have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jordan Greene made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Greene was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Bayshore let Bryant Ortiz and Jashun Judge run wild. Ortiz got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Judge got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Bayshore is undefeated when Ortiz posts three or more RBI, but 1-3 otherwise. Daniel Hutsko also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Bayshore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Bayshore has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Morgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
