Colorado Academy is 8-2 against Kent Denver since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will host the Sun Devils at 3:30 p.m. Colorado Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Colorado Academy had taken Peak to Peak down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Mustangs fell 6-2 to the Pumas.
Henderson Ray was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, Colorado Academy got a good showing from Liam Driver, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits Driver has allowed since back in March.
Ray wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kieran Delaney, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Another was Cam Reiter, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Kent Denver was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They walked away with an 11-8 win over Peak to Peak. The game was the first time the Sun Devils have beaten the Pumas on their field since May 4, 2023.
Like Colorado Academy, Kent Denver also got a great game from a two-way player: Will Goldmanis. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Goldmanis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Connor Callaghan Wong was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Levi Pollyea was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kent Denver's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Colorado Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Colorado Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Kent Denver struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colorado Academy got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Kent Denver by a conclusive 12-3 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Sun Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
