Overton is 9-1 against the Mustangs since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Overton Eagles will take on the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Overton will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.
Last Thursday, Overton was able to grind out a solid victory over the Falcons, taking the game 36-28.
Overton had a senior duo take command as Natalie Wood dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds and Jolee Ryan dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Wood is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last four games she's played.
Meanwhile, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top against Elm Creek by a score of 54-42.
Taryn Arbuthnot and Mikah O'Neill were among the main playmakers for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller as the former scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. Arbuthnot is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cayleigh Jackson, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Overton's win bumped their record up to 19-1. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their win bumped their record up to 17-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Overton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sumner-Eddyville-Miller struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Overton came up short against the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 55-47. Can Overton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
