The Brownell Talbot Raiders struggled with assists on Saturday (the Boys Town Cowboys had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Brownell Talbot was beaten by Boys Town 79-41. While losing is never fun, Brownell Talbot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Boys Town is ranked 84th).
Brownell Talbot's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Simon Lim, who scored 16 points. Lim is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was John Schinzel, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Boys Town's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marqas Gray, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Dashawn Gomes, who scored 17 points.
Boys Town used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Brownell Talbot. And. Eziren Morris made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
This is the second loss in a row for Brownell Talbot and nudges their season record down to 7-11. As for Boys Town, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-10.
Brownell Talbot will be playing at home against Omaha Christian Academy on Monday. Hopefully Brownell Talbot focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday. Boys Town is on the road again on Friday and plays Norfolk Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Norfolk Catholic will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Boys Town surely won't give up without a fight.
