Basketball Game Preview: Hanahan Hawks vs. Fairfield Central Griffins

The Hanahan Hawks and the Fairfield Central Griffins will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

Hanahan's tournament run continued when they took on Waccamaw on Saturday. Hanahan fell just short of Waccamaw by a score of 51-48. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Warriors are ranked 101st).

Hanahan's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Quamel Grant, who posted 11 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, and Dru Goldsmith, who had 13 points. Grant has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Muirheid, who put up seven points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairfield Central). They breezed by Swansea to the tune of 63-31 on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Griffins as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Hanahan better keep an eye on Rashawn Brown. He was instrumental in Fairfield Central's win, putting up 12 points in addition to five assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenton Mack, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Fairfield Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Fairfield Central's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Hanahan, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hanahan has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Fairfield Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.7 boards.
