Even though the Oxford Pirates scored an imposing 68 points on Friday, the Nipmuc Regional Warriors still came out on top. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Nipmuc Regional made off with a 69-68 victory over Oxford. The win made it back-to-back wins for Nipmuc Regional.
Nipmuc Regional was led to victory by James McKinney and Brayden Kelly. McKinney scored 21 points, while Kelly scored 22 points. The match was Kelly's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chase Kelly, who scored 12 points.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brady Marqoupis, who scored 29 points. Marqoupis scored a full 42.6% of Oxford's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kofi Owusu, who scored 16 points.
Nipmuc Regional pushed their record up to 4-1 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Oxford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Nipmuc Regional will head out on the road to face off against Douglas at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Douglas is ranked 99th, while Nipmuc Regional is ranked 82nd). As for Oxford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southbridge at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
