Softball Recap: Shelbyville Has No Trouble Against Greenwood

Shelbyville barely beat Greenwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Golden Bears blew past the Woodmen 14-2 on Monday. The Golden Bears have beaten the Woodmen the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Woodmen has come to flipping the script.

Gracie Crafton spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Shelbyville got a massive performance out of Addison Stieneker, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Stieneker is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anna Shearer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Shelbyville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.

The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Coming up, Shelbyville will head out on the road to face off against Connersville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Golden Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Greenwood, they will square off against Decatur Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Woodmen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
