Baseball Game Preview: Schroon Lake Wildcats vs. Boquet Valley Griffins

The Schroon Lake Wildcats will square off against the Boquet Valley Griffins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Schroon Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Schroon Lake was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Crown Point on Wednesday. The Wildcats blew past the Panthers 14-5.

Daniel Pelkey made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Schroon Lake is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-3 otherwise. Pelkey was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Julian Porcaro and Jayce Emmert did most of the damage at the plate: Porcaro got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Emmert got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Schroon Lake is 3-1 when Porcaro posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Camden Lamphear, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Schroon Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Boquet Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Johnsburg Central, falling 20-1.

Schroon Lake's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Boquet Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
