Lake Cormorant has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Saltillo Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Cormorant will be strutting in after a victory while Saltillo will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Tuesday, Lake Cormorant didn't even let Byers onto the board and left with a 12-0 win. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Lake Cormorant has scored all year.
Meanwhile, Saltillo pushed their score all the way to 66 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 90-66 loss at the hands of Olive Branch. While losing is never fun, Saltillo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Olive Branch is ranked 11th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Gunner Wesson, who scored 18 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Howell, who scored 18 points.
Lake Cormorant has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Saltillo, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7.
Lake Cormorant was able to grind out a solid win over Saltillo when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 62-55. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Howell, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds.
