Given Colonie Central's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Troy is ranked 492nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Troy saw an underclassman step up: Stetson Merritt scored 24 points. That was a full 47.1% of Troy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Legend Merritt was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Colonie Central pushed their record up to 18-0 with that victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Troy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Colonie Central will take on Averill Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Colonie Central's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches. As for Troy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Guilderland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
