Basketball Recap: Ninilchik Skates Past Unalaska with Ease

Ninilchik waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Unalaska Raiders 70-40. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Raiders are ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ninilchik got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kade McCorison out in front who went 10-for-22 on his way to 35 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it 19 consecutive games in which McCorison has scored at least a third of Ninilchik's points. Another player making a difference was Max Russell, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 19 boards.

Ninilchik smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Ninilchik's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points over those games. As for Unalaska, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Ninilchik didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 92-68 victory against Tok on the 13th. As for Unalaska, they have also already played their next game, a 56-35 win against Nikiski on the 13th.
