The Wake County HomeSchool Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the Faith Christian Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wake County HomeSchool comes in on 13 and Faith Christian on five.
Last Thursday, Wake County HomeSchool got the win against Ravenscroft by a conclusive 7-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Calvin Tourville looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gabriel Ferrell was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Martin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Faith Christian). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Community Christian a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Noah Mayo and Blayde Hinton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Mayo struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Hinton pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Mayo went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Hinton scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs Hinton has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Faith Christian let Ashton Lascallette and Ayden Tyndall run wild. Lascallette scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Tyndall scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Tyndall a new career-high. Andrew Rine was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
Faith Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Community Christian only posted a batting average of .059.
Faith Christian's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wake County HomeSchool, their record is now 15-4.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wake County HomeSchool has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Faith Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
