James Wood is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Sherando is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Colonels will host the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (James Wood 2.4, Sherando 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
James Wood easily dispatched Handley two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Colonels fell just short of Brentsville District by a score of 4-2 on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Colonels couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Sherando got the win against Warren County two weeks ago by a conclusive 14-1. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Lilian Wray was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other pitching news, Jessie Kaiser looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Madalyn Cox was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elleana Shutts, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Sherando always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sherando's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for James Wood, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
James Wood couldn't quite get it done against Sherando in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 9-5. Will the Colonels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
