After a string of four wins, the Steeleville Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 59-51 to Sparta. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Steeleville in their matchups with Sparta: they've now lost three in a row.
Sparta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Darnell Smith, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Dariontez Monroe was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Steeleville's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Sparta, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.
Steeleville won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lebanon at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Steeleville is coming into the match with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Lebanon will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Sparta, they and Chester will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sparta knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Chester likes a good challenge.
