Softball Recap: Bathgate Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Bathgate, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Morrisania Lions with a sharp 20-5 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Laylan Campos made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple.

In other batting news, Heily Matos and Yanelli Vasquez Paulino did most of the damage at the plate: Matos got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Vasquez Paulino went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Matos is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Aby Dioum was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Bathgate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Bathgate pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Morrisania, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

As of now, neither Bathgate nor the Lions have any future games scheduled.
