Baseball Recap: Washington Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Washington came out on top against Wyandotte on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Wildcats never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Chris Reno and Ryan Hooks were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Reno pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hooks pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Reno got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Hooks got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Washington is undefeated when Hooks posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eric Fennix, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Benito Morell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .581 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Washington pushed their record up to 8-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Wyandotte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 16 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Washington wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 16-0 loss against Louisburg on the 9th. As for Wyandotte, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-1 defeat against Center on the 12th.
