Softball Recap: Monroe Catholic Has No Trouble Against Hutchison

Monroe Catholic let Hutchison stack ten runs on them in the third inning on Monday but luckily Monroe Catholic prevailed anyway. The Rams blew past the Hawks 17-11. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Anya Chernich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off four hits. Chernich was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI.

In other batting news, Monroe Catholic got a big performance out of Leyton Cortez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Myana Rojas, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Monroe Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Monroe Catholic back to even at 2-2. As for Hutchison, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Coming up, Monroe Catholic is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against West Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Wolf Pack have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Hutchison, they will take on North Pole at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.91 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
