IA Southern - Sunrise recap Oct. 16, 2012
Moapa Valley extended the longest winning streak in IA Southern - Sunrise this week by beating Virgin Valley, 47-6. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Boulder City led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Sunrise Mountain. DJ Koopman threw for 30 yards and one touchdown and ran for 185 yards in the win.
Josh Repp put up the best numbers through the air as Moapa Valley topped the Bulldogs. He finished with a total of four completions for 79 yards and one touchdown. Repp's favorite target this week was Tyler Zobrist, who caught one pass for 33 yards.
Jordan Calloway was the best wideout in the league this week as Sunrise Mountain lost to the Eagles. Calloway tallied two receptions for 33 yards. A'keem Ross helped Sunrise Mountain's passing attack out by catching three balls for 16 yards.
Ross made the biggest impact on defense this week as Ky Edwards' team fell to Boulder City. The 6-foot-2 senior forced one fumble.
Thanks to the talents of Repp and Conner Mortensen Brent Lewis' team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Repp leads the league in passing with 611 yards, while Mortensen has rushed for 1198 yards this season. Sunrise Mountain's Ross leads the league in receiving yards with 394 on 33 catches.
A big matchup in IA Southern - Sunrise this week will be when the Pirates take on Desert Pines. At the moment, Moapa Valley is in first, while the Jaguars are in third.
The Pirates made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,503 from 3,353. The advance stemmed from a 47-6 victory over Virgin Valley last week.
