The Richton Rebels are taking a road trip to challenge the Hattiesburg Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Richton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Richton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Bay Springs 15-2 on Thursday. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Eliza Kelly was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Kelly was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Richton let Kenze Jordan and Brayleigh Parker run wild. Jordan scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Parker scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Jordan also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Ely, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Richton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hattiesburg duked it out with Salem on Friday. Hattiesburg came up short against Salem, falling 12-3. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Chloee Parhm put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off only one hit. Parhm was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing five bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lyric Walker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stole at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 5-2. As for Richton, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Richton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Hattiesburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .473. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Richton suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Hattiesburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Richton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
