Baseball Recap: Montverde Academy Wins Going Away Against East River

Montverde Academy's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the East River Falcons with a sharp 14-3 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Danati Fronduto made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jovansky Velez and Arnaldo Gonzalez did most of the damage at the plate: Velez went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave Gonzalez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Valdes, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Montverde Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East River only posted an OBP of .286.

The win snapped Montverde Academy's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-7 record. As for East River, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montverde Academy will challenge Lake Minneola at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East River, they will square off against Satellite at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Scorpions' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
