Video: Chase Smartt doesn't let lack of hearing slow him downMaxPreps All-American stands out despite hearing loss.MaxPreps 2015 Medium Schools Player of the Year: Peter Lambert, San DimasPeter Lambert of San Dimas (Calif.) led his team to 31 straight wins to start the season and racked up one of the more impressive pitching resumes in the nation during the process.
Although San Dimas lost to Walnut in the Southern Section Division III semifinals (in a game Lambert did not pitch), Lambert's credentials were impressive enough for him to win Southern Section Division III MVP honors as well as Player of the Year honors from the Los Angeles Times, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and the National High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Lambert has also earned the honor of MaxPreps National Medium Schools Player of the Year.
In posting a 13-0 record during his senior season, Lambert also gave up just four earned runs on the season (0.34 ERA) and struck out 113 batters while walking only 16 in 83 innings pitched.
"He was pretty dominant," San Dimas co-coach Mike Regan told the
Los Angeles Times. "All his pitches developed and his
location was a big difference-maker. He threw harder this year and
located the ball better."
The Colorado Rockies capped Lambert's spectacular season by selecting him with the No. 44 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.
MaxPreps 2015 Medium Schools Coach of the Year: Chris BaughmanChris Baughman of Oxford (Miss.) is the MaxPreps Medium Schools Coach of the Year. Under Baughman, Oxford won its first 32 games of the season before dropping a playoff game to New Hope (Columbus, Miss.). Oxford went on to defeat New Hope in the Mississippi Class 5A state semifinal series and then topped George County for the state title.
In finishing 35-1 overall, Oxford moved to the top of the MaxPreps National Computer Rankings. Baughman was also named the coach of the year by the Oxford Citizen, the Northeast Missouri Daily Journal, the Jackson Clarion Ledger and the Mississippi Baseball Coaches Association.
Lambert and Baughman top the MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American Teams. The two teams, of 30 players each, consist of players from schools that belong to state enrollment divisions with generally between 1,000 and 2,000 students.
