Two dominant backs in Jonah Ganoe and Max Gallagher are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Smethport Hubbers are taking a road trip to square off against Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Friday, Smethport humbled Coudersport with a 44-14 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Hubbers just coasted through the last quarter.
Smethport's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jude Kisko, who rushed for 126 yards while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Smethport proved: they limited Coudersport to a paltry 3.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Clayton Kiser for the heroic effort on defense: he. Smethport's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.88 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.7 on average over their last five games.

Smethport's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Ganoe was especially locked on to Coudersport's QB and sacked him twice. Ganoe also punched in four rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Smethport is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Kane 30-0. Given Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Kane is ranked 328th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Smethport better keep an eye on Logan Skibinski. He was instrumental in Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley's win, rushing for 227 yards and three TDs while picking up 14.2 yards per carry. Skibinski's longest rush was for an incredible 85 yards.
Smethport's record is now 2-5. As for Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley, their record now sits at 7-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Smethport has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 197.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 221.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Smethport might still be hurting after the 51-26 defeat they got from Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley when the teams last played back in October of 2023. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Hubbers were down 30-6.
