The Peninsula Catholic Knights will be taking part in a tournament against the Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Peninsula Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
Last Tuesday, Peninsula Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Norfolk Academy, taking the game 63-50. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Peninsula Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zyon McClone, who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Hunter, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Norfolk Collegiate hadn't done well against Cape Henry Collegiate recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Norfolk Collegiate sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-48 victory over Cape Henry Collegiate. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mighty Oaks have posted since December 7, 2024.
Norfolk Collegiate's win came from a few key players Peninsula Catholic will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Justin Burrough, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Mills, who went 9-for-13 on his way to 19 points.
Norfolk Collegiate is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.9 points over those games. As for Peninsula Catholic, their victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-9.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Peninsula Catholic and Norfolk Collegiate are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Peninsula Catholic hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.3 points per game. However, it's not like Norfolk Collegiate struggles in that department as they've been averaging 65.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Peninsula Catholic beat Norfolk Collegiate 82-72 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Peninsula Catholic repeat their success, or does Norfolk Collegiate have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
