Hazleton Area proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wyoming Valley West Spartans 5-3. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Spartans, too.
Gavin Perkosky looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Hazleton Area saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Ledger, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double was Ledger's first of the season. Another was Logan Hearity, who scored a run and stole two bases.
Hazleton Area picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-2. As for Wyoming Valley West, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
