Green Mountain is 1-9 against Golden since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rams will look to defend their home field against the Demons at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Green Mountain needed a bit of extra time to put away Pomona. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 8-3. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Demetreus Padilla made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Corbin Wade was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hudson Burke, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Green Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pomona only posted a batting average of .259.
Meanwhile, Golden waltzed into their contest on Thursday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Lobos.
Taden Svendsen tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody McBroom, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Dylan Paulson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Golden's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Green Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 12-7-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Green Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Golden struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Green Mountain came up short against Golden in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 12-9. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
