Cayden Lohrey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Aurora Central Catholic is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-11 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Westminster Christian made easy work of Alden-Hebron on Monday and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Warriors have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Westminster Christian got a massive performance out of Sam Dries, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Dries has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Bartolome, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Westminster Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alden-Hebron struck out seven times.
Westminster Christian's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-12-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Aurora Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 14-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Aurora Central Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Westminster Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Aurora Central Catholic skirted past Westminster Christian 6-5 in their previous meeting back in March of 2018. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
