The Liberty Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 32-31 to Osceola. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Liberty of the 33-25 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture last Friday.
Despite the defeat, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: Christina Mossey scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Mossey scored 15 or more points. India Smith was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Osceola's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ivyuna Shelton, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Sippio, who scored eight points.
Liberty dropped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.9 points per game. As for Osceola, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty will take on Freedom at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Osceola will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Haines City at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. Haines City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Osceola in Florida (Haines City is ranked 87th, while Osceola is ranked 499th).
