After flying high against Armstrong last Thursday, Highland Springs came back down to earth. The Springers came up short against the Mechanicsville Mustangs on Monday, falling 16-6. The Springers' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Samantha Gathright and Ashlynne Porter stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gathright went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Porter scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Highland Springs suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 5-2. As for Mechanicsville, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland Springs will host James River Midlothian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mechanicsville, they will be playing at home against Caroline at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
