The Wakeland Wolverines will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Sherman Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wakeland has three straight victories, Sherman has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Wakeland strolled past Lebanon Trail with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. Given Wakeland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Lebanon Trail is ranked 673rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Sherman took a serious blow against Lone Star on Friday, falling 41-10. Sherman was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-10.
Wakeland's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 37.33 points. As for Sherman, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Wakeland came up short against Sherman in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 33-28. Can Wakeland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
