This season hasn't been kind to the Pocahontas County Warriors , who are still winless after their eighth game. They were dealt a 66-32 defeat at the hands of Tygarts Valley on Wednesday. Pocahontas County has not had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the loss, Pocahontas County had strong showings from Matthew S mcquain, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds, and Wyatt Hendrick, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Hendrick pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Pocahontas County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Tygarts Valley racked up 13 assists.
Tygarts Valley found their leader in underclassman Jacob Wamsley, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Wamsley scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Patterson, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Pocahontas County dropped their record down to 0-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Tygarts Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pocahontas County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (Union is ranked 98th, while the Warriors are ranked 118th). As for Tygarts Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcat at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Pendleton County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
