Trenton is 2-8 against Newberry since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Trenton Tigers will get right back to it and host the Newberry Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on December 19th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Trenton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Branford 57-54.
Trenton found their leader in underclassman Nathan Ridgell, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kendal Henry, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Newberry earned a 78-69 win over Hilliard on Friday. Given Newberry's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Hilliard is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trenton pushed their record up to 5-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Newberry, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Trenton couldn't quite finish off Newberry in their previous meeting back in January and fell 50-48. Can Trenton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
