The East Central Trojans will square off against the Whiteland Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. East Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Saturday just wasn't the day for East Central's offense. They fell 3-0 to Mt. Vernon on Saturday. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cole Reynolds made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Whiteland walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Bull Dogs on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won three games in a row.
Peyton Dickens was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Isaac Phegley and Kayden Wilson did most of the damage at the plate: Phegley went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Wilson went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four RBI gave Phegley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maalik Perkins, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Whiteland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbus North only managed three hits.
East Central's defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Whiteland, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
East Central skirted past Whiteland 9-7 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
