The Crescent Tigers fell victim to the Chapman Panthers''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 45-0 loss at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Crescent can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Chapman is ranked 29th).
Leading Chapman to victory were Bennett Smith and Coleman Gray. Smith picked up 146 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Gray rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Chapman's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Crescent's QB won't forget Carson Seymour anytime soon given Seymour sacked him seven times.
Crescent's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 6-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-0 Daniel and 10-1 Abbeville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 90.9% over those games). As for Chapman, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Crescent does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Chapman will square off against Chester at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
