The Geneva Knights will face off against the Oviedo Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Geneva nor Oviedo posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Geneva easily dispatched Manalapan on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Knights fell just short of Hagerty by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Jazlyn Rodriguez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Oviedo fell victim to Lake Mary and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rams. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by exactly four runs.
Emma Vreuls was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Oviedo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mckenzie Hubbard, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Hubbard has hit this season.
Geneva's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Oviedo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.
Oviedo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Geneva hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Oviedo, though, as they've only averaged .209. Will they be able to contain Geneva's hitters?
Everything went Geneva's way against Oviedo in their previous meeting back in March, as Geneva made off with a 13-3 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
