Basketball Recap: First Flight Wins Going Away Against Manteo

First Flight won the last time they faced Manteo and things went their way on Monday too. The First Flight Nighthawks blew past the Manteo Redskins 56-31. The Nighthawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 25 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Abby Miles, who posted ten points along with six steals and five rebounds. That's the most steals she has posted since back in December of 2023. Molly Richards also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

First Flight smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Manteo's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jazmine Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 boards, and Mya Kelly, who scored six points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

First Flight's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Manteo, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

First Flight is taking a road trip to face off against Currituck County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Currituck County is on a seven-game streak of home wins, First Flight a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Manteo, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 50-47 defeat against Pasquotank County on the 29th.
