The Mountain View Mountain Lions will take on the Yuma Criminals in a tournament on Tuesday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Mountain View came up short against Mica Mountain on Friday, falling 10-2. The matchup marked the Mountain Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Mountain View saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Kintner, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Kintner hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yuma). They were the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over Jefferson on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Eli Lujan made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Lujan was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Yuma let Jaime Ruelas and Deven Aguirrebarrena run wild. Ruelas went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Aguirrebarrena scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. What's more, Aguirrebarrena posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kane Huerta-Urbalejo, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2.
Yuma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Yuma and bumps their season record up to 3-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.5 runs. As for Mountain View, their loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mountain View has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Yuma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
