Two dominant backs in Devon Williams and Reginald Jones are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Ford Panthers will take on the Sanger Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Ford's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Kemp to the tune of 57-0. That looming 57-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.
Ford got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emmanuel Sevilla out in front who rushed for 59 yards and one touchdown. Sevilla didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made six total tackles. Another player making a difference was Payton Wallen, who rushed for 27 yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 413 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sanger). They took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 91-56 victory over Farmersville. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Indians' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Farmers are ranked 613th).
Sanger's win came from a few key players Ford will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Reed Sebastian, who threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Sanger's success: the team is 6-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Joel Rodriguez also helped with three TDs in total.
Sanger didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Luke Hendricks was the real danger to the passing game, picking up an interception all by himself. Sanger got some further help from Kale Barr: he made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Ford's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. As for Sanger, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Ford has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 319.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sanger struggles in that department as they've been averaging 312.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
