If the Newcastle Dogies were feeling good off their 61-31 takedown of the Arvada Bulldogs last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Newcastle received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 62-46 to Sundance. Newcastle lost against Sundance in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 65-46 score last time.
Wyatt Cole and Thatcher Troftgruben certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Cole scored 20 points along with five rebounds, while Troftgruben scored 12 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Newcastle bumped their record down to 2-3 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Sundance, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newcastle won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lead-Deadwood at 4:00 p.m. on December 15th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Lead-Deadwood is ranked 50th in South Dakota, while Newcastle is ranked 51st in Wyoming). Sundance won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Belle Fourche at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Allowing an average of 55 points per game, Belle Fourche has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
