The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 17, 2019, but that streak is no more.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons got the win against Enloe on Friday by a conclusive 21-7. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Avery Robinson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-6. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Katie Scavone and Mallory Kelly did most of the damage at the plate: Scavone went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Kelly went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Scavone has posted since back in April of 2024. Bridget Mazzo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Holly Springs' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Cardinal Gibbons, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Holly Springs took their victory against Cardinal Gibbons in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 11-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Holly Springs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
