Softball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Holcomb's Winning Streak

Holcomb dropped their record down to 6-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Malden Green Wave, falling 16-10. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Green Wave apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Malden, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Malden, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Malden's part, they let Carsyn Cohen and Mariah Loya run wild. Cohen went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Loya went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Loya has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitie Sparks, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Holcomb will challenge New Madrid County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Malden, they will face off against Caruthersville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
