McGregor extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-5. They came up short against the Barnum Bombers, falling 28-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mercuries of the 14-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
McGregor saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
As for Barnum, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Barnum's side, Alizondra Collelo and Makenna Nordstrom made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Collelo tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Nordstrom pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Collelo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Collelo went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Nordstrom got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Nordstrom has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Barnum got a massive performance out of Kennedy Berthiaume, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Berthiaume also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Makenna Ziesmer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. McGregor will face off against rival Floodwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Barnum is set to take on their familiar foe Moose Lake/Willow River at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
