The biggest upset of the week belonged to Ridgeland, who took down 70th ranked Callaway, 31-20. Gary Adams ran for 175 yards in the win.
Starkville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in 5A Region 2. The Yellowjackets beat Canton 42-0 earlier in the week.
Starkville's dynamic duo of Gabe Myles and Kentrell Spencer proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Myles threw for 64 yards and one touchdown and Spencer had 59 yards receiving. Princeton Jones helped Starkville's passing attack out by catching one ball for 23 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback DeJuan Ellis of Provine is the league leader in passing yards this season with 853. He has also thrown five touchdowns. On the ground, Canton's Tim Lewis has rushed for 890 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dayall Harris. The Callaway star has 21 catches for 390 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Yellowjackets take on Yazoo City. As it stands, Starkville is in first, while the Indians are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Yellowjackets take on Yazoo City. Starkville has allowed 106 points this season, while Tony Woolfolk's team has given up 118. The Yellowjackets allowed 0 points last week as they defeated Peter Brown's team.
Starkville extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 2 this week by beating the Tigers, 42-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
