The Deep Run Wildcats suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Glen Allen by a score of 52-50. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Deep Run of the 70-54 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Deep Run's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quentin Morgan, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and eight blocks. Morgan hasn't dropped below two blocks for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Nerheim, who scored 15 points.
Glen Allen found their leader in underclassman Faron Friend, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. Friend continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Brodey Harper was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Deep Run has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Glen Allen, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.
Deep Run will head out on the road to take on Hanover at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (Hanover is ranked 162nd, while Deep Run is ranked 166th). As for Glen Allen, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m.
