Brownsboro is 0-10 against Canton since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. Brownsboro will square off against Canton at 6:30 p.m. Brownsboro has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Brownsboro and Athens had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Brownsboro took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Athens on Tuesday.
Cheyenne Cowart was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Cowart was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Arabella Lowrance made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Aubree McKinney, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Even though they lost, Brownsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 12.
Meanwhile, Canton had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Lindale. The result was nothing new for Canton, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Brownsboro, Canton also got a great game from a two-way player: Rylee Busby. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Busby has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Lily Cervantes was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Chloe Howe was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI.
Canton pushed their record up to 13-5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Brownsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9-2.
Brownsboro might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Canton in their previous meeting on March 4th. Can Brownsboro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
