Softball Recap: Hixson Sets Scoring Season-High Against Whitwell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hixson). They came out on top against the Whitwell Tigers by a score of 8-3 on Wednesday. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

Hixson let McKenzie Kaylor and Brantley Bruggink run wild. Kaylor scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Bruggink went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI were Bruggink's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Landry Bruggink, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Hixson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitwell struck out 12 times.

The victory made it two in a row for Hixson and bumps their season record up to 2-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 9.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Whitwell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Coming up, Hixson will be taking part in a tournament against William Blount at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Whitwell, they will host Bledsoe County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
