Even though the Strom Thurmond Rebels scored an imposing 56 points on Monday, the Greenbrier Wolfpack still came out on top. Greenbrier narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Strom Thurmond 58-56. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Greenbrier also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2015.
It was another big night for Jackson Jennings, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. He set a new season high mark in steals with six. Another player making a difference was Martez Ford, who scored ten points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Strom Thurmond's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roosevelt Walker, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. The matchup was Walker's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Jones, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Greenbrier has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Strom Thurmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenbrier will take on Jenkins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Strom Thurmond will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Midland Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Midland Valley has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 21.
