Maple Heights is 0-4 against Lorain since April of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Titans at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Maple Heights is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 31-7 margin over Garfield Heights on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.
Meanwhile, Lorain came tearing into Monday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bearcats 18-8. Considering the Titans have won ten games by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Charlton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Alysandria Lighty was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alonna Coleman, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Lorain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. They are 10-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lorain pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Maple Heights, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Maple Heights suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Lorain when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
