Basketball Recap: Desmond Flanagan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Colony over Villa Park

Colony lost against Villa Park back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Colony Titans fell 70-61 to the Villa Park Spartans. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (57), the Titans still had to take the loss.

Colony's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Desmond Flanagan, who posted 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Flanagan a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Terron Grant, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Colony smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 8.5 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.2.

Villa Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malakhi Johnson led the charge by going 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego P?rez, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Colony is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14. As for Villa Park, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-8.

Colony has already played their next game (against South Hills), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Villa Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 80-76 defeat against Sonora on the 28th.
