McComb has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Raymond Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in McComb's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games.
McComb put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 52-0 victory over Wingfield at home. Given McComb's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Wingfield is ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jamarcus Pittman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 210 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Pittman hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for five straight games. Fred Wells also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Raymond entered their tilt with Richland with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Raymond walked away with a 20-7 win over Richland on Friday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Raymond was the (much) better team in the second half.
Raymond relied on the efforts of Keveonta White, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and Amodra Moffett, who rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Richland to a paltry 240 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Raymond's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Zander Butler and DeMarrion Williams who racked up four sacks between them.
McComb's win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Wingfield and 1-9-1 Jim Hill (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.8% over those games). As for Raymond, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
McComb strolled past Raymond when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 32-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for McComb since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
